so i reblogged this because there is such a pretty truth to love…alll, ya know, love isn’t meant to be understood. roses and daisies and petals and yummies.

and here comes the never-ending societal idea of romance vs. feminist questioning. (which can go into a whole other debate of how this ranks on a feminist scale…when really you have you’re own feminist scale. oy vey, here it goes.)

but then i thought, i also want someone to understand me. it’d be pretty damn frustrating to never be understood. if you don’t understand me, how could you love me. i mean, i don’t understand all of me and yes that’d have to be loved as well…but we are not “made” to be understood?

is this the whole “emotional” (women) vs. “logical” (men) crap? oh, wait! it may just be.

and if so, then does this rule not apply to men? cause that is O-R-A-N-G-E-S. (i don’t understand why that just works with bananas. gwen stefani wrote that whole B-A-N-A-N-A-S. she also wrote some hot grrrl shit back in the day. so i’m gonna take a lead from gwen and go with “O-R-A-N-G-E-S”)

i have loved men and not understood them.

i think it comes back to understanding within in love and it has nothing to do with women.

i’m kinda thinking this is some wack sauce right now. legit.

Thank all 38 of you who have turned NEW YORK into the Jim+Jim/Jane+Jane Crow South.

As a native New Yorker, I am obviously mortified.

And as a person who has her degree in journalism, another kudos to the media.The news (i use this term loosely, it was Fox) was on this morning and I heard, “New York State Senate Rejects Gay Marriage Bill”; a clip that ran for maybe 15 seconds! Followed by a split screen of two reporters in different headquarters (snazzy!) talking about how much play married golfers get.

Oh, the sanctity of marriage!

(see also: “Oh, the humanity!” (humanity? if you’re human…loving other humans. who look, feel, love, like…humans. what an obscure idea!)

(can also see: “Oh…the separation of Church and State?” (if you’re human, believing in the different beliefs of humans? and not wanting other humans who to use those beliefs to be dehumanize other humans?! can you believe that?!)

(already could have saw: this coming. the whole it being NY threw me off but if I could have voted on it, i would have said us suckers for equality know we got a ways to go and haven’t gotten as far as we think. (thanks, by the way, for giving me that whole voting right. i think us women have gotten the swing of it even though we only got it in 1920.)

All this having basic human rights business is makin’ me tired! After this sad day in the manzana, I’m gonna go lay in my bed.

He knows I am supposed to be writing right now but I just need to say one thing.

Yes, Brian Omni Dillon and I are co-coaches, co-editors, (practically/hopefully one day) co-workers; we are Intangibles, SUNY Slam fammers, SUNY New Paltz Slam Teamers. We are all these things.

But no matter how those titles sift through all of this, he will forever be my coach.

So thank you, Omni, for once again, getting my face out of my hands and on to biznass.

Last night I went to NP to hold a practice with the new team. This was my first full practice with my full squad. We were only missing my co-coach, the one and only Tracy Soren, who was busy baking bread.

Things I found in the attic, Part II:

A rainy Saturday, Joey and I venture into the attic to look for whatever disregarded family treasures we can find.

I lucked out and found the aforementioned poster. In a box of clothes that hasn’t been touched for 15 years, I also found an awesome high-waisted skirt, a tye-dye dress, a vintage button-down, a t-shirt and a cardigan.

In another box, I found this dress.

My mother’s wedding dress.

Now, my parents got married in my Bubbie’s house because my Zeyde was sick and the original wedding plans fell through. My mom was 19, my dad was 23. No lavish wedding. No huge ceremony. A rabbi in a living room; a halter-top, polka dot dress. Low-key. Not the usual spectacle.

I think that is amazing.

They are still happily married.

That is also amazing.

This dress and all that came after is how I live and love.

It fits.
